Animus

April 24, 2015

Lately art has been less about painting and more about moving my body, wearing silly costumes, talking about ideas, making a mess and running around churches and studios with a troupe of people coming to be known as the Animus Arts Collective. More to come….

Driftwood No More & House Behind A House

September 22, 2014

Driftwood Community Arts has since disbanded. The end result? I no longer have a studio, but I DO have a night dresser full of pipe tobacco. I also recently moved with my partners into a House Behind A House. Once we crush this Halloween party I’ll be back on with painting things. Until then. Happy Halloween.

Driftwood

March 22, 2014

One thing that I’ve failed to mention is that I’ve been working out a space called Driftwood Community Arts for the past 6 months. What!? I could go on and on about what a blast it’s been, but it’s probably better for you to just swing by some time and check it out.

France Etc.

April 10, 2013

My goal for 2013 was to quit my day job and go to France. So in February I quit my day job and went to France. I spent my time in Marseille with my best friend and fellow artist Trevor Tweeten. He did some sculpting and I did some drawing, but mostly we got caught up and had a good time.

Since my return I’ve been doing acrylic paintings:

That’s where my heart is. But people have been asking for stencils so those are back too. PINK!

That’s what’s up for now. Hope you’re having a lovely 2013.

RHAFAWHYBD

July 27, 2012

Oh hi Mike what have you been doing for the last year? Oh hey I’ve been on a non-stop bender of sex & drugs. Come see the results at The Red Hot Art Festival on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th.

$99 and MARRIAGE

August 18, 2011

Hey! I’m going to have a piece in the $99 Sale at The Soap Factory. You should go to the sale and buy every piece they have available, just to make sure that you secure the purchase of my drawing. Then you’d be giving a lot of money to a really fantastic gallery.

I’ve been hard at work the last few weeks screen printing up some commemorative paper dolls for my friends’ wedding.

It was a fun, but hot project. Weddings have been a theme this summer. I’ve also had the honor of serving as best man at a wedding and will soon have the honor of serving as officiant at a wedding. So in case you were wondering “does he do weddings?” The answer is yes.

In addition to all this jazz, I will be having a show at Trotter’s Café & Bakery during the month of September. You can go check it out and then have me make you a latte or something. See you there!

ARTwalk, etc.

June 11, 2011

What up people. The summer is here. I’ve spent my springtime turning things like this:

into things like this:

This was all part of my gig as ARTwalk Curator for Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. The ARTwalk is a public exhibition of children’s artwork in storefront windows and unique spaces throughout downtown St. Paul. It was a pleasure and honor to work on this project.

Beyond that it’s been business as usual. Painting cabinet doors….

….and making books.

This particular book is a collaboration with New York based artist and friend Darby Lorents. Speaking of which, I’m off to Brooklyn tomorrow. Here’s to a lovely summer!

November Rain: An Autumn Update

November 12, 2010

Perhaps you’ve been wondering….”Mike, what have you been up to for the last several months?” After The Red Hot Art festival I’ve been keeping busy with odd jobs like making large ink drawings for friends and painting bird houses for charity events.

The rest of my time has been spent working at Trotter’s Café, maintaining my domestic/social life and throwing a kick ass Halloween party. Most recently I’ve been inspired by Black Label Movement’s “Woyzeck Project.” Right now I’m looking for models for figure drawings and I’m interested in the idea of drawing portraits of as many people as I possibly can and then giving them the portraits to hang in their homes. In a week I’ll be going to Florence, Italy. I currently have a book in a show called “A Very Much More” at The Soap Factory which runs from November 13th through December 5th. The opening reception is Saturday, November 13th from 7PM – 11PM
